They did the impossible.

LSU defeated No. 1 Oregon State 6-1 on Saturday to advance to the National Championship Series. The Tigers were led by sophomore pitcher Caleb Gilbert, who threw 7.1 innings of two hit ball against an offensive powerhouse in Oregon State. The Beavers lost four games all season, and LSU managed to beat them twice in two days.

The bulk of the Tigers’ offense came from Michael Papierski, who hit two homers from different sides of the plate. Papierski belted a key three-run shot in the second inning and a solo-shot in the fourth. Leadoff hitter, and senior leader Kramer Robertson seemed to catch fire, going 3-3, and ending a major slump in the College World Series.

Zach Hess once again entered to notch the five out save, however, this time didn’t seem to have his usual command. The Tigers will play the Florida Gators on Monday at 7 p.m. on ESPN. It will be Game 1 of a three game series.

Note: LSU will be the home team in both Game 1 and in Game 3. (if necessary)
