FINAL: LSU 7, Missouri 5.

The 10-week grind through conference play begins with a series win for Paul Mainieri and the Tigers on SEC opening weekend.

Ma’khail Hilliard had a career day on Sunday at The Box. The freshman would throw six innings and a career-high six strikeouts, only allowing 2 earned runs. AJ Labas would enter in the seventh and get the job done, recording three key outs and allowing just one hit.

The offense was delivered by Hal Hughes, who hit a 2 RBI-single to score Cabrera and Watson in the sixth. The Tigers would extend their lead to 6-2 thanks to an RBI-single from Brandt Broussard.

Things; however, got interesting in the ninth inning, as Missouri’s Kameron Misner blasted a three-run homer to cut the lead to 7-5.

Next, the Tigers will travel to Hawkins Field at Vanderbilt for a 3-game series. Game 1 will be televised on ESPNU and heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network. With the win, LSU now improves to 14-7.
