FINAL: LSU 7, Alabama 5.

It’s firework night at Alex Box, a fitting theme to Friday’s game against Alabama. The Tigers trailed by four runs heading into the eighth inning, and it would all be erased. Senior Beau Jordan ripped a grand slam into left to put LSU ahead, and eventually win, 7-5.

For most of the night, the Tigers’ offense was nonexistent. Nick Coomes got it going with an RBI-single to score the first run, then Brandt Broussard would draw a walk to plate another. However, all it took was one swing from a senior playing in his last home game to provide the fireworks the fans came for. Sophomore Todd Peterson would then enter to close the ninth, earning his third save of the season. Starter Zack Hess struggled mightily, but was successful in getting out of jams and stranding runners in scoring position.

With the win, LSU improves to 30-20 and 13-12 in the SEC. The Tigers return to action tomorrow at The Box for Game 2 of this three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the SEC Network.
