Paul Mainieri and the Tigers fired up their bats on Friday night at The Box, blasting three leadoff home runs to power past the Volunteers in a pivotal conference showdown. LSU racked in 15 hits.
The Tigers’ received a career-night from Jake Slaughter, who, according to LSU Sports Information, became the first player to hit two homers in a game since Michael Papierski did it against Orgeron State in the College World Series last season.
LSU starting pitcher Zack Hess posted another stellar performance. The sophomore threw for seven innings, striking out seven Volunteer batters while only allowing three hits and one earned run.
With the win, LSU improves to 22-13 and 7-6 in SEC play.
