FINAL: LSU 10, Mississippi State 1.

Head coach Paul Mainieri has been concerned with his team’s offensive production as of late, but tonight the Tigers left no doubt, exploding for ten runs, seven of which coming in the seventh inning. Zach Watson stayed hot, finishing 3-for-4 with 3 hits and 2 RBIs.

In the end, LSU totaled 14 hits and defeated Mississippi State in a crucial, must win, SEC Game 1 of a three-game set at Alex Box.

LSU’s starting pitcher Zack Hess had arguably his best outing of the year. Hess posted 6.2 innings, giving up only 3 hits, 1 earned run on 104 pitches. He left the mound to a standing ovation Thursday night.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. for Game 2. With tonight’s win, LSU improves to 17-10 overall and 4-3 in SEC play.
