FINAL: LSU 9, Northwestern State 5.

Paul Mainieri and the Tigers earned an unusually important midweek win tonight against in-state opponent Northwestern State. The Tigers were led by Austin Bain, who seemingly can do it all. The senior outfielder/pitcher went 3-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs and even earned the save in the ninth. The team scored all of its runs with two outs, something that should make Paul Mainieri happy.

Starting pitcher Matthew Beck finished with career-high six strikeouts over three innings at the bump. Gilbert and Bain would replace him.

With the win, LSU improves to 32-21 on the season. The Tigers will travel to Auburn this weekend for their final SEC series of the year. This will be a critical three-game set for LSU’s postseason hopes.
