FINAL: LSU 8, Lamar 0.

LSU’s starting shortstop Josh Smith made his anticipated return from injury, and the Tigers welcomed him back to Alex Box with a convincing shutout of Lamar, snapping a four-game losing streak.

And, with Smith’s return, the offense gained a much-needed boost.

Smith got his bat going right away, hitting a solo-homer in the sixth inning to give LSU a 2-0 lead. After an Austin Bain RBI-single, Daniel Cabrera ripped an RBI-double to score two more runs, extending the lead to 6-0 heading into the eighth inning. Jake Slaughter would drive in two more on an RBI-single to left and LSU’s lead would be 8-0.

Josh Smith finished the night 2-for-3, with a home run and an RBI. The Tigers (25-17, 9-9 SEC) return to action at The Box on Thursday night for a three-game series against Ole Miss (32-10, 10-8 SEC).
