Paul Mainieri and the Tigers were shut down by South Carolina pitcher Logan Chapman, who threw 6 shutout innings on Friday night to lead the Gamecocks to an opening series win at Founders Park.
LSU starting pitcher Zack Hess surrendered three runs on eight hits. The sophomore right-hander threw six innings, also striking out six.
First pitch for Game 2 is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on Saturday. With tonight’s loss, LSU drops to 24-15 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
