Football shuts out Southeastern in home opener
It wasn’t always pretty, but the Tigers remain perfect.
After their dramatic win over Miami last weekend, No. 11 LSU pitched a shutout tonight in Tiger Stadium against in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana. The LSU defense held Southeastern to just 65 yards rushing.
The offense was led by Nick Brossette, who rushed for 137 yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Joe Burrow went 10-of-20 for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Complete LSU offensive stats:
Nick Brossette: 19 carries, 137 yards
Joe Burrow: 10-20, 151 yards, 2 TDs
Ja’Marr Chase: 3 catches, 25 yards, 1 TD
Star kicker Cole Tracy stayed hot and nailed a 50-yard field goal, too.
“We weren’t very good on offense tonight but we got the job done,” said Orgeron postgame.
Dave Aranda and the defense posted another stellar performance. LSU’s defensive line forced more pass rush and pressure on the quarterback, but the defensive backs had some more technique issues against a weak Southeastern receiving corp. They will need to clean that up for Auburn next week.
Complete LSU defensive stats:
Devin White: 11 tackles
Breiden Fehoko: 6 tackles, 1 sack
Neil Farrell: 6 tackles, 1 sack
Ray Thornton: 5 tackles, 1 sack
More coverage from tonight to come shortly. Until then, the Tigers return to action next Saturday at 2:30 at Auburn. The game will be televised by CBS.
