In a surprising announcement, LSU has named RHP Landon Marceaux the starting pitcher for tomorrow’s NCAA regional opener against Stony Brook.

The freshman from Destrehan (La.) has been lights-out lately. In fact, he’s got a 2.40 ERA in his last 30 innings. Marceaux also becomes the 14th LSU freshman pitcher to start an NCAA postseason game.

Many expected coach Paul Mainieri to go Walker-Marceaux-Henry for this weekend. Mainieri did, however, confirm that Brandt Broussard will be available for tomorrow. Trent Vietmeier has recovered and is a full-go as well.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPNU. LSU enters with an overall record of 37-24, while the Seawolves of Stony Brook enter with an overall record of 31-21. Stony Brook will start veteran right-hander Greg Marino (5-4, 5.19 ERA).
