LSU defeats Southern Miss to advance to Super Regionals
You know what they say … As the weather gets hot, so do those Tigers. LSU is headed back to Super Regionals for the 14th time, most by any school in the SEC.
LSU defeats Southern Miss, 6-4 on Sunday night to capture the Baton Rouge Regional for the 24th time in program history. It wasn’t easy, but the Tigers edged out a motivated and loose Golden Eagle squad playing with house money at that point.
After going 0-for-4 last night, Antoine Duplantis recorded hit No. 353 on his first at-bat, becoming LSU’s new all-time hits leader. Josh Smith led the game off with a solo homer and a 2-RBI triple. Zach Watson’s 2-RBI single gave the Tigers the lead back, while Saul Garza’s RBI-double capped of the 6-4 victory at Alex Box Stadium.
Eric Walker went 4.2 innings, giving up 3 hits, 3 earned runs, while striking out 2 batters.
LSU will host Super Regionals at The Box next weekend vs. Florida State. Times and dates are still TBD. Two wins clinches a spot in Omaha for the College World Series.
