BATON ROUGE —- Big loss suffered for LSU football today heading into the peak of recruiting season.

LSU’s general manager and key recruiter Austin Thomas will leave Baton Rouge to return to his home state of Tennessee. Thomas has been at LSU for four and a half years and has been an instrumental piece to the Tigers’ recruiting efforts.

Earlier in the week a report from Tennessee’s GoVols247.com reported that this deal was in the works for Thomas to return to Knoxville. Just today, these reports were confirmed by multiple media outlets down in Baton Rouge. Thomas is believed to be on the plane to Knoxville already.

LSU reportedly offered Thomas another contract boost, however, he was still adamant about returning to Tennessee. Thomas is likely to assume a similar position at Tennessee. This is a key pick-up for Jeremy Pruitt’s staff.

Thomas’ departure is not believed to have any effect on LSU’s recruiting class.
