It was batting practice for LSU tonight vs. Stony Brook.
LSU went 5-straight innings scoring a run, posting 5 in the first and 4 in the second. Stony Brook recorded their first 1-2-3 inning in the seventh inning, for some context.
Mainieri also got another solid outing from freshman right-hander Landon Marceaux, who threw 5 innings, giving up just 1 earned run on 7 hits, while striking out 3 hitters. Ma’Khail Hilliard, Trent Vietmeier and Chase Costello would come in relief later.
The 17 runs are the most scored by LSU in an NCAA Tournament game in 11 years. (The Tigers beat Cal Irvine 21-7 in 2008 super regionals)
The Tigers will now advance to play Southern Miss tomorrow in the winner’s bracket game at 6 p.m. CT on WatchESPN.
