LSU senior wide receiver Jonathan Giles has entered the NCAA transfer portal, first reported by Shea Dixon of 247Sports.

Giles struggled mightily in 2018 after being awarded the coveted No. 7 jersey. With lots of hype surrounding him, the Texas Tech transfer posted just 10 receptions for 59 yards and no touchdowns and even swapped the No. 7 in for No. 12 to combat his slump.

In March, Orgeron took a stab at Giles at his press conference after awarding this year’s No. 7 to safety Grant Delpit. Orgeron said: “It’s a better choice than I made last year.”

As you probably are aware, Giles also worked punt returns but the production never came. Muffed punts and ineffective returns forced Orgeron to put Justin Jefferson at the return spot in the Fiesta Bowl. LSU is above the 85-man limit, so don’t be surprised if a few more players transfer out this offseason.

Although Giles hasn’t really been what we thought he’d be at LSU, we wish him nothing but the best at another school, if he does stay in the transfer portal. Giles is a talented receiver who just hasn’t had his ‘coming out party’ yet in Baton Rouge.
