Softball drops Game 1 of Minneapolis Super Regional
LSU softball dropped the first game of the Minneapolis Super Regional, 5-3, to Minnesota. Shelbi Sunseri pitched three 2/3 innings until MaryBeth Gorsuch came on in relief for the Tigers. Gorsuch had issues in the sixth inning with a few illegal pitch calls.
The Tigers got the scoring started in the first inning on a wild pitch that scored Aliyah Andrews. Minnesota tied it at 1 in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run. LSU would then go up 2-1 in the fourth inning courtesy of a solo home run from Amber Serrett. Later in the inning, Amanda Sanchez doubled and brought home Elyse Thornhill to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Sunseri gave up five runs before making the switch to Gorsuch.
Minnesota pitcher Amber Fiser allowed eight hits, however, the Tigers couldn’t get any more runs after the fourth inning.
Game Two of the Minneapolis Super Regional will take place on Saturday at 5:00 pm on ESPN2. LSU is down to their final game unless they pull out a win and force a winner-take-all Game Three on Sunday afternoon. The winner of the decisive game three would advance to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series. The Tigers are seeking their seventh appearance in OKC and their first since 2017.
