The LSU defensive-line got a much needed boost.

On Monday, the news broke that Travonte Valentine, a 6-3, 340-pound lineman was going to rejoin the team, and fill a big gap, literally and figuratively. Valentine was dismissed last summer for a violation of team rules in an off campus altercation, and now is eligible to return. Today, an LSU spokesman told the media he has been cleared to practice. He joins the team as the No.1 junior college defensive end in the country. With the injury of senior DT Christian LaCouture, Valentine’s addition to the team feels that more important. For more details:

With Valentine, comes an elite talent and physical stature, but off-the-field issues will remain the point of focus in his maturation at LSU. “I’ve matured as a man since I left and want to prove myself to the wonderful fans at LSU,” Valentine told the Baton Rouge Advocate.

LSU’s uncharacteristically quiet offseason comes with one disappointing story, we are saddened to report that Christian LaCouture suffered a torn ACL in practice Monday. LaCouture, forwent the NFL Draft last season to return to Baton Rouge.

News: Valentine will wear No 55.
